South Bank is Brisbane’s premier lifestyle and cultural destination. Located on the southern banks of the Brisbane River, its 17 hectares of lush parklands, world-class eateries, stunning river views and hundreds of delightful events all year round make it the perfect place to relax and unwind.
One of the best things about South Bank is how easy it is to access and explore, and the CityHopper, Brisbane’s free ferry service, is a prime example. The CityHopper runs from 6am until midnight daily and departs South Bank from Terminal 3 every 30 minutes. It travels along the Brisbane River and stops at North Quay, the Maritime Museum, Thornton Street, Eagle Street Pier, Holman Street, Dockside and Sydney Street. Visitors are invited to hop on and hop off as many times as you like, while taking in Brisbane’s sights. Head here for more information.
A South Bank icon, Streets Beach is a must-visit while you’re in the Parklands. It is Australia’s only inner-city, man-made beach and it boasts a sparkling lagoon surrounded by white, sandy beaches and sub-tropical plants. Streets Beach is free to use and is patrolled by qualified lifeguards all year round. The lifeguard’s hours change throughout the year, so please contact the South Bank Visitor Centre on (07) 3156 6366 to see when they are patrolling.
A convention involves a coming together of communities, an assemblage of people with shared values and passions. Whether it be a noisy basketball game, where the scent of buttery popcorn spreads through the bleachers, or a stellar rock gig packed with hundreds of jubilant fans, a quality convention calls for a first-rate venue. Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre hosts an average of 900 events each year, including many of Brisbane’s major exhibitions, concerts, gala and charity events. Conveniently located in South Brisbane, the BCEC is a stone’s throw away from bus and train stations, and has onsite parking, dining and catering facilities.
